CHEAP, GOOD : Gifts Under $40

My 2017 round up for gifts is a little different this year. I challenged myself to stay true to the theme of BRASS (because who would I be if I didn't?) and also thought this would be a great opportunity to find the best of the best at the BEST prices, because, priorities. No one receiving these gifts would even guess you snagged them for a steal. There is something for everyone - the girly girl, the handyman, the homebody, the tech-y, the entertainer. There are 12 days left until Christmas, so get to gifting!

Double Duty

With spending so much time in the kitchen during the holidays, I can't help but keep my wheels turning on how the perfect kitchen could be designed. Ideal storage, ample counter space, unhindered walkways - my design brain just doesn't stop.

Years ago, my parents were fortunate enough to buy their dream house (of course it was once I'd gone off to college). Anyway - it was kind of a huge house, with a huge kitchen that had a HUGE island. It was all people would talk about when they would visit for the first time, and it was a step up from the peninsula in their old kitchen that was constantly over-cluttered.

It seemed though, this new kitchen island seemed just as overwhelmed as the old one. The bigger the surface, the more you want to spread ingredients around, and the more people wanted to surround.

This is a kitchen trend I've totally found myself overlooking: the double island. It makes double the statement, and double the impact - breaking up the room perfectly, adding a better flow around the kitchen, and adding more opportunity for a beautiful surface area.

Mountain Cabin Goals

Last weekend, my girls took me away for a surprise birthday trip. We ended up away in the mountains to do all the things I love, plus some. From a spa day, to hiking to horseback riding, it was everything I could have asked more and more with the gorgeous freshly changing leaves beaming orange, yellow and crimson all around. The crisp air and overcast sky set it over the edge and I'm pretty sure now that November is my favorite month out of the year.

When we got home, I couldn't stop my mind from wandering. How I'd love to own a little cabin hidden away in the mountains to spend weekends just like this one with family and friends. My little designer mind couldn't help but create that space and my imagination sent me to making moodboards of just how that cabin might look...
